Nikolai possesses his grandfather's blonde hair. Like his brother, he has blood red eyes, but his seem more rusty and dull, more like an old knife with dried blood stains than the actual ebbing life force that comes from severed arteries. He has very fair skin, as he does not spend much time under the sun. His facial features and his soft expressions make him appear very delicate, fragile, maybe even a bit feminine. But it's just a perception really. Nikolai is quite severe. Unlike most of the Krutikovs, he has very few tattoos. He obviously possesses his Theia marking of a raised scar tattoo of a spade under his shoulder blades. But besides that one, he has two more. On his left hip, he has the tattoo of birds on the horizon, a tattoo that means "I was born free and should be free." He got this one voluntarily, even though he got it in a relatively hidden place. The other tattoo is obviously not one he wanted or likes to talk about. It is on his chest from under his collarbone to his stomach. Four large words: Отправьте меня в ад which translates to "Send Me To Hell". The tattoo was obviously not done well at all, and the result is a mix of jagged, colored scars forming block letters in a messy style. Both those tattoos he got while in prison.
Nikolai is a man of more refined tastes. He prefers the classics to modern things. Clean cut and professional is how he likes to appear, even if he feels otherwise. He takes a certain pride in cleanliness and noble appearances. He can play a very good gentleman and does not like associating with the crass, common class. He prefers to take things slow and cautiously than run into the heart of things without analyzing first. Nikolai likes the outdoors but does not spend a lot of time in it, mostly because he despises the insane cold weather. He likes sweet and spicy things, but is still health conscious. He stays active and fit to maintain his strength and stamina. Nikolai does not like to reveal a lot of things about himself. As an extreme introvert, Nikolai has very few friends. But even so, he genuinely likes people and always wants to be of service. Problem is, his services are enlisted in areas he despises: crime. He hates crime and all things criminal, but being in the family he's in, he has literally no choice but to participate. Valaerian knows that Nikolai hates using his power, but Nikolai is a great asset to the family. His ability is sustaining others. As such, he was best recruited as the Krutikov's interrogator and torturer. He can do whatever he wants to the victim, even cut off their head, and the victim will remain alive so long as Nikolai uses his power on them. He gets out plenty of useful information in this fashion. He absolutely abhors his power and hates using it, even though he has to. Not because of what it is per se, but because of how he is trapped in the mindset of how "this is what it is to be used for", which is torture.
Nikolai has varied tastes and indulges in each one well enough to be good at them. He does a lot of painting. Usually watercolors and oils. He also tinkers around with inventions and small robots, often giving them to his brother for fun. They are not anything really bizarre or out there, but Nikolai always thought they were cool, like little spy tools: a pen that turns into an acetylene torch, an MP3 player that can hack into security systems: things like that. Nikolai also has a few talents of more dignified quality. Besides painting, he can play the violin, and he knows eight languages: Russian, English, French, German, Japanese, Polish, Norwegian, and Italian.
Nikolai is the twin brother of the heir of the Krutikov, Valaerian Krutikov. When they were born, their mother, through her powers, created them guardians: two panthers for Valaerian and two wolves for Nikolai. They are immortal to age, disease, poison, and the majority of physical deaths. They will disappear when Nikolai and Valaerian die, but until then, they will forever be at their sides to watch over them. They were there when Nikolai and Valaerian were rescued in the dead of night by their grandfather, while their own parents were executed by firing squad. The guardians were with them as they grew, through their trials, tribulations, as well as their joys and victories. When the two were young, they were never that close. They always saw each other as competitors. This was encouraged by those who watched over them, and the two were often pitted against each other in various areas and activities. It started when one of Valaerian's guardians died. Nikolai was kidnapped when he was seven. He had run away from home to go an an adventure or something equally childish. Guards were sent out to look for him, and Valaerian told one of his panthers to fetch his brother back. Well, one of the panthers did find Nikolai, but so did some rather slimy scum that had been keeping an eye on these priceless children. The panther put up a fight, but both of them were captured in the end. When it came time for ransoming him, the Krutikov godfather was not one to just give in to the demands of thugs. The dealer hung up, furious, and in a fit of anger, demanded his men cut off one of Nikolai's hands to send to the godfather, to show Viktor they meant serious business. Hearing all this, and seeing the men grab Nikolai and hold him down, the panther broke free of its cage in a rage and killed all of the men. Then, gravelly injured and weary, the panther picked up Nikolai like a kitten and carried him back to the Krutikov Estate, nearly sixty miles away. When the panther got there, the guards at the gate took the near frozen Krutikov child, but the panther had been pushed to its limit. It lay down and did not wake up again. Valaerian blamed Nikolai for the entire thing, and it began their long standing hatred with each other. But years passed, and when Valaerian was named the heir, something seemed to click in the boys. They came to accept each other and understand that they both had faced so much together, there was no reason for them to be always fighting. Why should they ignore that bond they shared? It was pointless to keep fighting. If they were not going to work together, no one was. So they grew closer. It started slow at first. Things were a little awkward between them. But after a year, their friendship strengthened in leaps and bounds. Now they seem like any ordinary twins: close, always sensing the other's thoughts and feelings, almost always working in sync, etc. It is also known that Nikolai served time in prison. He was incarcerated when he was thirteen and released when he was sixteen. He will not say why, and as such, no one really knows why either. If they do, they keep it quiet. Prison is where Nikolai received two of his tattoos.
